The flat is located in the Remedios neighbourhood in Seville. It is a penthouse with a large terrace that is definitely the main feature of the project.
The refurbishment of the dwelling seeks to recover the potential of the space and the natural light, as before the intervention the flat was dark and very partitioned. To achieve this, it was necessary to enhance the indoor-outdoor connection, placing the terrace at the centre of the operation. The predominantly daytime rooms (living room, dining room and kitchen) were unified along the main façade. In this way, the terrace is presented as a spatial and visual extension of the dining room and living room to the outside through two large wooden sliding doors.
The vegetation on the terrace has been conceived as another material in the project, and can also be enjoyed from the inside, like an oasis within the home. Horizontal and vertical awnings form the mobile limits of the terrace, providing protection from the sun in summer and privacy, even allowing for isolation from an environment where visual noise is very present. This idea of an introverted outdoor space turned inwards has formed part of the project idea from the beginning.
The kitchen occupies a leading position in the house and is integrated as a socialising element within the living room space and outdoors. The kitchen furniture extends onto the terrace to produce a small bar space.
The night area consists of three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bedroom is linked to a custom-made dressing room where the lighting is integrated into the design.
The master bathroom does not renounce to natural light, giving the opportunity to create a warm and pleasant space.
The relationship with light, the warmth of the spaces and the use of natural materials has been a maxim in the project. Industrial oak parquet flooring has been used for the interior floor, ipe for the exterior and all the exterior and interior frames are also made of wood.
