Located on the shores of the Vinkeveense Plassen near Amsterdam, Lake View House was designed as more than a private residence. The project explores how architecture, interior design and integrated technology can come together to support everyday family life while also serving as a place where clients can experience the studio’s design philosophy in a natural, authentic setting.
The architecture responds directly to its surroundings. Towards the street, the house remains deliberately closed, providing privacy and shelter. Towards the lake, expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing opens the living spaces to panoramic water views, creating a seamless relationship between interior and landscape.
Planning regulations restricted the above-ground footprint to just 300 square metres. Rather than seeing this as a limitation, the design incorporates a generous lower ground floor that accommodates a cinema, fitness studio, boardroom, material library, secondary kitchen, bar and indoor urban farm. Designed with the same spatial quality, daylight and material palette as the main living areas, this level forms an essential part of the home rather than a conventional basement.
Technology is carefully integrated throughout the project. Hydroponic growing systems, concealed home automation, advanced air and water filtration, and hidden audiovisual solutions enhance daily comfort while remaining virtually invisible. A television disappears into the floor when not in use, and kitchen storage rises seamlessly from the worktop, allowing architecture to remain visually calm.
Natural materials, including Ceppo di Gré, travertine and bespoke Hungarian point timber flooring, create warmth and permanence. Technical detailing, from the custom roof edge to rainwater harvesting and a reflective white roof, contributes to both sustainability and longevity.
Lake View House demonstrates how thoughtful architecture, craftsmanship and discreet innovation can create a home that quietly enriches everyday life while remaining deeply connected to its natural surroundings.
