Vetra Building

Il Prisma as Architects

THE CHALLENGE

A delicate, precious, historic place, to renovate with the utmost respect - with the ambition of rediscovering tradition.

STRATEGY AND APPROACH

To know the dynamics and the transformations of the past, in order to understand the present and imagine the future at that standard.

FINAL EXPERIENCE

A deep renovation that begins with the piazza and then takes over the city, so as to restore the dialogue between its monumental area and the buildings.

Work in progress

One of the most beautiful churches in Milano is the Basilica of San Lorenzo. A historical area of the city, the park of the Basiliche, gives way to a great and enthusiastic journey to its requalification. The process of rebirth of Milano’s ex Tax collectors office begins from the facade, that re establishes the connection between the park and Milano, both physically and visually.

It is followed by its other spatial assets - the materials, the building plans - that earned them a Gold level Leed Certification. An open ground floor, with ample windows enhance and take advantage of the natural light. A new facade that interprets its inheritance from the past, with its molded and cut metal sheet covering.

We present you with the original “Vetra Building”, that resumes the interrupted dialogue with the Basilica of San Lorenzo. Around which the colonnade goes back to being a walkway once again, and the internal courtyards become pleasant spaces for taking a break, also thanks to the opening of the food district with its walkthrough arcade and extended opening hours.
