This 345 m² project was developed by the team at NJ+ Arquitetos for a family of four. The wife is a journalist and influencer in decoration and lifestyle, the husband works in finance, and the couple has two young children, a boy and a girl. With architecture by the Gálvez & Márton office, the interior design by Nildo José and his team, encompasses all four floors: the basement, the ground floor, an upper floor divided into two half-levels where the bedrooms are located, and a final top floor with the rooftop. It was very important to them that all the spaces had a seamless integration.
The concept behind this project was to create a home filled with tradition and comfort, with a decoration full of meaning and a meticulous curation. This approach, combined with the clients incredible personal collection, resulted in sophisticated furniture, where nothing was placed by chance; everything was carefully thought out and planned. From the beginning, the client brought aesthetic references with a lot of personality and a rustic concept. She has always shown a preference for welcoming materials that convey the feeling of home, while also harmonizing with the sophistication of the pieces. With a timeless aesthetic, materials as medium-tone wood, textured paint, rustic bricks, and stones were prioritized. The predominant tones are earthy and off-white, complemented by traditional prints and personality-filled elements, reinforcing this atmosphere.
At the entrance, it’s possible to notice the fluidity of the rooms, which connect and flow throughout the entire project. In the living room, the concept of the "sunken living" is present, bringing an ancestral idea of comfort. This cozy space is sunken in relation to the main level, aligned with the entry hall. The handmade brick flooring outlines the space, while the sunken area is covered with cumaru wood by Akafloor.
In the integration between the living and dining areas, the highlight is the imposing shelving designed by NJ+ and crafted by Raízes Móveis. Made from teka wood,
the piece serves two primary functions: housing the low travertine stone fireplace and acting as a buffet console for the dining room, both seamlessly integrated into its design. Throughout the house, transitions are made in a very organic way, reinforcing the idea of fluidity. On the ground floor, for example, the rustic handmade brick flooring gradually gives way to the wood floor as one moves up the stairs. The kitchen, strategically designed to be connected to the dining room, follows the palette of white and off-white tones. Compact, but perfectly functional for the family.
In the private area, the master suite exudes tranquility, with a double-height ceiling, cumaru wood flooring by Akafloor, and large windows offering an exclusive view of the backyard garden. The elegant portico, with beveled edges in teka wood and an interior fabric lining, adds charm and warmth to the space. In the daughter's room, a captivating atmosphere takes over the environment: the canopy bed in shades of pink and terracotta perfectly complements the vintage chandelier, creating an inspiring retreat. The son's room features a standout blue and white gradient wallpaper, evoking the calmness of the sea. The rustic and charming furniture maintains the continuity of the project's design language.
The house also features a beautiful rooftop, where a gourmet counter, barbecue, and a small travertino stone pool designed by NJ+ are located. The highlight is the greenery surrounding the counter and the privileged view, making it the perfect spot to enjoy outdoor moments with the family.
