Design Concept: Mandala Residences
Mandala Residences is inspired by the timeless geometry of the Mandala, representing unity, balance, harmony, and interconnectedness. The project transforms these symbolic values into a contemporary residential environment where architecture, landscape, and community are organized around a common center.
At the master plan level, four identical residential blocks are symmetrically positioned around a shared central courtyard, creating a balanced composition that establishes the courtyard as the social and visual heart of the development. Rather than functioning as an empty open space, this central plaza becomes a vibrant community hub that encourages interaction, recreation, and a sense of belonging among residents.
The concept extends seamlessly to the architectural scale. Within each building, residential units are arranged around a central circulation core consisting of the elevator, staircase, and a central void. This organization reinforces the principle of center and periphery, providing efficient circulation while improving natural daylight, cross-ventilation, and spatial clarity.
The project is based on a four-directional symmetrical geometry, reflecting the traditional Mandala structure. This balanced configuration creates equal orientation, visual harmony, and functional equity among all residential blocks. The cross-shaped building form further enhances environmental performance by maximizing daylight, natural ventilation, and panoramic views from every dwelling.
Spatial movement throughout the project follows a carefully defined hierarchy:
Urban Street → Main Entrance → Semi-Public Landscape → Central Courtyard → Residential Block → Central Core → Private Living Spaces
This gradual transition from public to private spaces strengthens both privacy and community life while creating a clear and intuitive circulation system.
The landscape design completes the Mandala concept by emphasizing the central courtyard as the project's focal point. Pedestrian pathways radiate toward the center, connecting all four buildings through landscaped gardens, seating areas, water features, and recreational spaces. The result is a cohesive residential environment where architecture and nature work together to foster well-being and social interaction.
Mandala Residences is a contemporary interpretation of the Mandala principle, where four residential buildings and their internal living spaces are organized around shared centers. By repeating the concepts of centrality, symmetry, balance, and hierarchy from the urban scale to the architectural scale, the project creates a unified residential community that promotes harmony, sustainability, social interaction, and a strong sense of place.
