Following a sudden change in family situation, this photographer, father of a 3-year-old daughter, and owner of a single-storey house on a large plot of land in Lège (Gironde) decided to divide the land on which he had decided to split his family and sell the existing house.
His project ? keep land and build a new wooden cabin-type house in the spirit of the Arcachon basin while remaining contemporary in its finishes and the layout of the interior spaces. Anxious to respect the identity of the place, Mr. wants wood outside, inside, everywhere,... with black cladding. The area must not exceed 110 m², have an outbuilding for its photo studio and a “small” swimming pool. A new project for a new beginning.
For the realization of this project, we had to circumvent two major constraints. The town planning rules did not allow to set up in the center of the plot and the land only offered a small footprint. The house therefore had to be split over two levels in order to gain as much living space as possible. A cabin is never very straight! We therefore decided to refer to it by tilting the walls of the upper part. The roof overhangs are revisited. Located not far from the ocean, we had to offer a sustainable solution for this wooden construction subjected to sea spray. The use of burnt wood cladding called "shou sugi ban" or "Yakisugi" quickly became obvious. Of Japanese origin, this technique makes it possible to naturally protect cladding wood by carbonization. Beyond the practical aspect, the use of this technique gives a unique cachet to the house.
