The Elliptic Curve

AplusCon Architects as Architects

The Bangkok Boulevard Signature Pinklao-Borom project is a housing development comprising three types of homes (S, M, L). Apluscon Architects collaborated in designing the project's clubhouse. The target demographic falls within an average age range of 25-45. Currently, families seeking to upgrade their living spaces often look for new homes. Choosing a planned community like this is an attractive option due to its communal spaces, security systems, and improved quality of life. Therefore, the design of the communal area is pivotal in meeting the needs of our client. We have created special spaces to enhance the overall quality of life, including a welcoming kitchen for entertaining guests, an active studio for classes in yoga and dance, as well as a studio for online business. These features complement the evolving lifestyles of our residents. There's also a playground, an open-air sports field and a swimming pool encouraging families to engage in activities together during weekends. This meaningful interactions among residents.

Inspiration from the spatial layout and viewing experience of Claude Monet's "Water Lilies" exhibition in the oval room of Musée de l'Orangerie, Paris, we've incorporated a similar design into our building's circular structure under a unified roof. “The Elliptic Curve”, this configuration creates a semi-enclosed space with a central circular pool, serving as the project's focal point. The main functional areas of the project are situated on both the left and right sides, encircling the central space of the building. This architectural choice enhances the perception of space, making it feel more expensive. Moreover, the semi-enclosed of the building can flow the circulation and space from the external environment to the internal space, while still affording users a sense of privacy.

The building has been meticulously designed with a directional orientation, and the  user circulation follows a spiral level from the entrance leading to the perimeter walkway around the swimming pool. This area encompasses a hall, lounge, office, kids' room, and co-working space. Additionally, the staircase not only serves to distribute traffic to the second level, which hosts the fitness and yoga rooms, but also facilitates a seamless flow of users, aligning with the curved internal pathways of the building. The overall circular shape of the building is well-executed. By dividing the building around the swimming pool into two sides, left and right, it creates two open spaces: the building entrance area and the spacious garden adjacent to the staircase well. This configuration promotes continuous ventilation throughout the day, while also instilling a contrasting ambiance between the expansive external walkway and the enclosed space within the main building.

The roof design serves as the focal point and highlight of this project. We aim to achieve a sense of simplicity in the overall form, unified under a single circular roof structure. This roof encompasses various functions, including a one-story building, a garden, and a two-story building. These elements are arranged in ascending levels to correspond with their respective functions, resulting in the creation of an intriguing Elliptical Spiral Roof design. We opted for the LYSAGHT® 360 SEAM™ roofing, a cutting-edge standing seam panel. Its sleek and modern profile aligns perfectly with the architectural concept we envisioned for the building. The flexibility in bending, thickness, and width of the panels, coupled with a minimum slope of just 3 degrees, not only adds a contemporary finesse but also simplifies installation.

The building's facade is designed with open spaces both inside and outside, creating a diverse range of perspectives. This approach extends to the levels and sequences of accessing and utilizing each area, ensuring privacy, and providing excellent views for users. The roof of the building showcases a new look with an industrial-style metal sheet design, seamlessly blending into the overall village aesthetic. The curvature of the roof's structure reflects the simplicity and modernity of the materials and construction techniques, aligning perfectly with contemporary sensibilities.
