Project. Regent’s Place is a 13 acre, fully managed estate in London’s West End and already home to nearly 10000 workers and residents. Over the last seven years, Regent’s Place has been completely transformed and in 2013 British Land will deliver the North East Quarter (NEQ), an additional 500000 sq. ft. of prime space. The heart of the estate is Regent’s Place Plaza, a meeting place which plays host to an array of regular events. The office section comprises three glass buildings of 8, 10, and 16 storeys, with floor-to-ceiling glazed external cladding, designed by Wilkinson Eyre. Once completed, the complex will provide 2 million sq. ft. of office, retail and residential space, providing accommodation for 14000 workers and residents.
Concept/Design. Vision Fabric is used to contrast with the profiled, anodized stainless steel behind glass on the south facade, while the east/west facades are shaded with vertical fins of glass and translucent coated Sefar fabric. These fins vary in depth to create a wave pattern across the facade and the adjoining Vision panel has a solid area equivalent in width to the fin. The SEFAR® Architecture VISION Fabric is 50 % open space black polyester with aluminum metal coating on both sides as sunlight falls on both the outside and the inside of the glass fins during the course of the day. SEFAR® Architecture VISION Fabric is also incorporated into the sun protection lamellar blinds.
Construction. The laminated safety glass has a low iron content, polished edges, and the glass fins protrude at 90° to the vertical facade. The fin itself is frameless and slot between the 1.5 m wide glazing panels. Cantilevering from mullion. Other construction details as glass sizes: 3.9 m high and between 175 mm and 450 mm wide.
