Verde Point Apartments Boasts Panoramic Views of Arlington, VA Cityscape

YKK AP America Inc. as Manufacturers

Simplistic and modern, are the adjectives used to describe the Verde Point apartments in Arlington, Va. The fresh community consists of two buildings, one that is 10-stories tall and houses 162 apartments, along with a low building featuring a parking garage, grocery store and 39 residential units. Opened in July 2015, the Verde Point apartments were created as a way to address the housing demand in the vicinity to the Courthouse Metro Station.

The architect, Antunovich Associates, inspired by the surrounding cityscapes of neighboring Alexandria and Washington, D.C., designed the tower to offer residents panoramic views from their living spaces. Striving to meet LEED Gold certification while still incorporating a large amount of glass as a way to capture the most scenic views possible, the architect specified energy efficient solutions for the project.

To meet both efficiency and aesthetic intent, the project team used the YES SSG TU vent windowswhich seamlessly coordinated with the window wall, making it practically invisible from a distance. The project also used the YCW 750 OGP curtain wall on the tall openings of the grocery store on the building’s ground floor, in turn consuming lower energy. The installation of the YOW 225 TU operable windows350T terrace doors and YWW 50T window wall system also increased thermal efficiency.

With the help of the glass installer, Emmitsburg Glass Company, the installation process moved quickly, allowing the project to meet tight deadlines. The YKK AP products enabled the architects to meet energy efficiency requirement without sacrificing their design vision.

To date, feedback from neighbors has been overwhelmingly positive. The building have provided a much-needed modern update to the area, and alleviated the need for a standalone neighborhood grocery store and new residential living spaces.
